"There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers." -Richard Feynman

What Now?

If you are a fan of action games of any type you are probably wetting your pants right now in anticipation of Resident Evil 5. If you have an Xbox 360 or a PS3 in your living room already, then you’re all set for the amazing-ness that shall be RE5. If you own a Wii, on the other hand, you are guaranteed the exclusive opportunity to stand outside your buddy’s window in the rain, watch them slaughter mobs of angry not-zombies beneath the harsh African sun, and curse the Gods for making life so cruel. Game developers do seem to love tormenting Wii owners:

Awesome.
Awesome.

Even if you do own the appropriate console(s), there is still the issue of release date, or rather, the lack thereof. When will it be released? The yearning masses are, well, yearning that it will come out later this year, but I know better than to get my hopes up. Remember Half-Life 2? Halo 2? Duke Nukem Forever? The best games are always delayed and I can almost guarantee that RE5 will be no different. It seems unlikely that it will be coming out before at least Q2 2009.  But I am even somewhat glad about this; it means that the developers will have plenty of time to polish and primp, and thus the final product will be just that much better.

So in the mean time, I’m dusting off the ol’ Gamecube and sticking in Resident Evil 4. Mercenaries Mode might very well give me a heart attack one day, but at least my dying words will be “Aggh! Chainsaw!”

Pwned.
Pwned.
